Features of vinyl ether polymer
- Surface free energy is smaller in comparison with (meth)acrylate.
- It has temperature responsiveness (LCST).
- Has biocompatibility.
- Since the side chain of a polymer containing the hydroxyl group has a reactive functional group (OH group), vinyl ether is capable of functionalization by reaction.

- Coating material for medical devices
- Material for DDS (DDS: drug delivery system)
Characteristics/application example of polymer
Temperature responsiveness (LCST) of homopolymer
- Structure of polymer: PEOVE, PHBVE, and PMOVE synthesized in the living cation polymerization method
- Features of material: LCST of each polymer is 20°C (PEOVE), 40°C (PHBVE) and 60°C (PMOVE).

- Structure of polymer: Vinyl ether polymer containing the oxyethylene chain
- Features of material: It has biocompatibility, aqueous solubility, and temperature responsiveness.
- Example of application:
・Coating using polymer as base material provides antithrombogenicity and the protein adsorption inhibition function to the base material.
・Copolymerization and introduction of the hydrophobic group into the polymer stably performs physical adsorption for the base material also under water.

- Structure of polymer: Polymethoxyethyl vinyl ether (PMOVE)
- Features of material:
Although PMOVE is a water-soluble polymer excellent in biocompatibility, it promotes adhesion of specific cells, such as cancer cells.
This material is considered to improve the suppression of migration of polyethylene glycol (PEG), which is widely used for drug delivery systems (DDS), into the target cell. - Example of application: The improvement of retentivity in blood of the DDS is important in order to heighten the medicinal effect of medicine.
Vinylphosphonate Polymer
We perform synthesis of the vinyl phosphonate polymer utilizing our own polymerization technology. In addition, we focus on the characteristics of the obtained vinyl phosphonate polymer to study the deployment to various materials.
Features of vinyl phosphonate polymer
- Composition of the vinyl phosphonate polymer can suppress the efflorescence originated from the mixture of boric acid and borax (SPB) used for flame retardancy of lumber.
- Mixing with binder for lithium-ion cells of the next generation improves the adhesive property with electrodes, suppresses peeling from the electrode interface, and inhibits the deterioration of the SiO anode due to structural changes.

- Structure of polymer: Vinyl phosphonic acid polymer (POP)
- Features of material:
・Reduction of the property can be suppressed and seepage of the flame retardant and hydrolysis can be inhibited by making it into a hardening resin.
・Issues of the mixture of boric acid and borax (SPB), such as the efflorescence (phenomenon of seepage of white dirt to the surface by deliquescence), the difficulty in processing because of hardening, and the increase of specific gravity are improved.
